Hot Flashes Are A Frequent Side-Effect of Tamoxifen Therapy in Breast Cancer Treatment

A 2007 study has shown that hot flashes in women who have completed breast cancer treatment and are currently undergoing adjuvant tamoxifen therapy may be an indicator of the efficacy of the treatment.

Breast cancer survivors on tamoxifen therapy who experienced hot flashes had fewer breast cancer events than those who did not. This is according to data from 3,088 women, aged 18–70 years, who have a history of breast cancer stage I (T1c)-IIIa.

Dr. Joanne E. Mortimer, of University of California San Diego’s Moores Cancer Center says that the data suggests “a relationship between side effects and efficacy of adjuvant tamoxifen.”
